Kalki Koechlin is on the move, shooting for Jia Aur Jia , a chick flick about two girls on a road trip. Perhaps that’s why she relies heavily on the Here Maps app to navigate and search for destinations. “Apps play a major part in my daily life. I love to explore and download them on my phone. Especially the ones related to photography and filmmaking. Also, I love music and with the Nokia MixRadio on my phone I am constantly listening to songs,” says Kalki.
The actor in fact loves apps so much that she is back as the judge on Season Two of Nokia – Your Wish Is My App . About the reality show which goes on air mid-March, Kalki says that it was launched with a focus on creating consumer-centric applications and allows consumers to submit ideas that can be developed into successful apps, with the opportunity to win Rs. 10 lakhs. Thirty shortlisted apps will feature on the show which will air on NDTV Prime.
“In the last season of the show we got around 38,000 ideas as against our expectation of five to seven thousand. What was incredible was that the participants didn’t have the option of doing their homework and coming on the show. However, the contestants, who will be coming for this season know what we are looking for,” says Kalki who will be judging along with Rajiv Makhni, managing editor-NDTV, Vishal Gondal, entrepreneur and angel investor, Sanjeev Bikhchandani, founder and executive vice chairman, naukri.com and Vikas Khanna, New York-based Michelin-starred celebrity chef.
And what will the judges focus on? “Our vote will depend on whether the idea presented focuses on originality of the idea, relevance of the app, potential for revenue and the practicality of the app,” she adds.
On the movie front Kalki has just wrapped up shooting for Margarita With A Straw , a movie about a girl with cerebral palsy who’s looking for love and acceptance; and Happy Ending , a romcom with Saif Ali Khan and Ileana. She’s also writing a monologue that she wants to perform on Women’s Day.
And what about giving regional movies a shot? Maybe a Tamil film, given her understanding of the language since, she is from Puducherry. “I would love to do a Tamil film, but the right script or director has not come my way,” she says adding, “As for Pondicherry, my mum lives there, so I am very much in touch with the place and was there for Christmas and New Year!”
