These days, Krishna manages different roles with ease – that of an actor, businessman and reality show judge. Grandson of Lalitha of the famed Travancore sisters trio, Lalitha, Padmini and Ragini, Krishna seems to be in a mood for experimenting. He has become choosy about his films. He has also diversified his business and is up for new challenges and experiences as judge of ‘Kitchen Magic’, a cookery-based reality show on Kairali. More from Krishna:
On ‘Kitchen Magic’
I am an absolute foodie, though not a great cook. The show is a platform for people from all sections of society. There are doctors, professors, housewives, engineers, students… They are not trained, but by the end of the show the chosen ones will evolve as master chefs. The concept is such that it connects with all kinds of people. Of course there is Lakshmi Nair, who is leading the show and who has a religious audience of her own. Working alongside her is always an advantage for me, as an artiste and businessman. We had earlier associated in a cookery show, ‘Pachakarani’, aired on Kairali.
But there are cookery shows on every channel…
I feel such shows encourage would-be cooks and cooking. We have a treasure house of dishes about which we have not heard of or which have forgotten. These shows have participants unearthing such preparations. Also, there are many people who are expert cooks, but never come into the limelight. So, it is good that the cookery shows are giving a platform to all these people.
Food path
My father, Mohan Divakaran, is the reason why I took to cooking and also became a gourmet. Coming from a family of artistes, it was natural for me to turn to acting, Rishyasringan was my first movie. Then I did a lot of low profile roles, before I got stuck in a phase where I could not fit myself into any film. I took a break and got involved in my father’s business. I tried to gave the place a new look, worked on its interiors and opened a new restaurant as well. It was during that break that I did a few serials such as ‘Megham’, ‘Mandaram’, ‘Amma Manassu’and ‘Sayvinte Makkal’ and advertisements. Interestingly, most of the ads I did were related to food!
Looking back…
I have no regrets about my film career because I was busy otherwise. Cinema is a seasonal project, if I like a project I do it. My aim is to do good roles, in good movies. Traffic came out of the blue one day and I was back in the limelight. Recently I reprised the same role in the Tamil remake of the movie. I’m doing movies such as Bunty Chor and Lekha Tharur Kaanunnathu.
Plans
Maybe, a few years down the lane I would like to come up with a food-based show on television.
