Throwing her weight around! Bharti Singh.

Throwing her weight around! Bharti Singh.

Bharti Singh is on seventh heaven. She is now being flooded with offers from Bollywood and small screen alike after her stint as a stand-up comedian in the popular reality show “Comedy Circus”. A national level player in pistol shooting and archery, she has hundreds of stage shows to her credit. This laughter bomb of Indian television is taking a brave step by participating in dance reality show “Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa”.

Excerpts from an interview:

How do you feel being touted as the top female comedienne of the country?

Initially, I felt so strange. But after seeing the viewers' response, after knowing the fact that, kids, adults and old people love me alike, I started enjoying my celebrity status. This title or position or whatever you may call it, increased my confidence.

What about your new project, shaking a leg in the fifth season of dance reality show, “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa”?

I am excited to the core. A lot of hard work is going into it. My moves will evoke humour. I am planning to infuse comedy in all my dance performances.

Dancing doesn't seem to be your cup of tea. How are the preparations going on?

I am not a dancer. So yes, I am nervous. I should say it's not butterflies but ‘elephants' in my stomach. With this new dance show, I feel like I have entered my ‘sasural'. I need to adjust with a lot of things, including food. I need to learn so many new things. After the show, I hope that I could go back to my favourite food stuff.

You and your co-artistes make fun of your own weight in your acts. What is your take?

If I were thin I would not have been able to become what I am now. Humour is the toughest of all the rasas . My body weight helps me a lot in that regard. I have no issues regarding this ‘physical comedy' tag.

Whom do you look up to as your role-model in doing comedy?

Johnny Lever is my all time favourite. I do not have any role-models as such.
