Narain Karthikeyan gets behind the wheels of the Japanese supercar Nissan GT-R

Which mass-produced supercar holds the record for the fastest ever lap time at the Nurburgring circuit? The answer is the Nissan GT-R that clocked under seven-and-a-half minutes in April 2009.

Quite at the same time, Narain Karthikeyan became the proud owner of a Nissan GT-R as Kiminobu Tokuyama, CEO and MD of Nissan Motor India, handed him the keys of the GT-R during a formal ceremony at the Madras Motor Sports Club, Irrungattukottai, near Chennai.

Once the formalities were over, the fastest Indian lost no time in pointing the nose of the car towards the test track, pinning down the accelerator and delighting the select group of invitees.

And the crowd got a glimpse of why the Nissan GT-R is considered one of the most iconic cars to come out of the land of sushi and sake.

Powered by a 3799cc V6, the 1740kg GT-R generates a whopping 478bhp.

These humungous figures mean nothing if the driver can't use it.

But the driver of the GT-R can use all of it, all of the time. Despite the engine still being run-in, Narain couldn't resist the temptation of hitting 190kph on the back straight.

So what is this car capable of? It will hit 100kph in just 3.5 seconds, a standing quarter at 11.7sec, and a top whack of over 300kph. Figures that are serious enough even for an F1 race driver.

Before you ask the first question everybody asks, here's the answer.

Despite the GT-R's shattering performance, it gives a combined average of 9.69kpl! Now that's an awesome figure for a supercar.

And no, you can't go buy the car in India. This was a one-off that the company had specially imported for Narain Karthikeyan.
