It attempts to bridge the gap. The gaps between mindsets and cultures. Acceptance , a video shot by Ritvick Sharad and starring Chennai actor Sanjay Jayaraman, showcases the difference between a traditional art form like Bharatanatyam and a contemporary genre like Dubstep. The video opens with a shot of a Bharatanatyam dancer invoking her spiritual side through her art form, before being challenged by a hooded dubstep dancer. The two spar through their moves, till finally, they find a middle ground to create a beautiful medley of the two styles.

The video, which has been selected to be screened at the ScreenDance Festival in Barcelona, has Sanjay quite excited. “It is for the youth; to show them that it isn’t all that hard to bridge the gap,” he says. The aspiring actor, who is “waiting for his big movie break”, is keeping himself busy with short films and videos. Kolza , a short film by Usman Sarjun on a victim of sexual assault that Sanjay stars in, has already garnered over a 1,00,000 hits on YouTube since its upload earlier this year.

The actor, who is being approached for a lot of short films and music videos, is however waiting to make it to the big league. But he’d like to do things differently. For instance, instead of circulating a regular portfolio of himself, he has conceptualised and starred in Yellow Horizon . “It’s a video portfolio. I wanted to showcase everything from my expressions to dance skills. This was the best way. The video has been shot in Hong Kong and some of the locations entailed an hour-long trek,” says Sanjay, a self-confessed Mani Ratnam fan, who is currently working on a video with the band, Swarathma.
