When it comes to comfort food for the family it has to be a pizza joint and that too in a nearby market. Fitting into these requirements is the latest outlet of Sbarro, which has just debuted at Connaught Place.

What clicks about this place is its service and that it offers pizza by slice. Big enough 17 inch pizza cut into slices makes things easier.I could see people coming and ordering a slice with a drink and enjoying the meal. Since mine was a review session, I had to taste one slice each of all the variants available. The menu is very selective with variants of New York style cheese pizza, pan pizza and stuffed pizza. I first tasted their garlic bread which was nicely rubbed with garlic and oil but was slightly hard. I would have preferred it to be softer and slightly more seasoned. The only option for salad was a Caesar salad which was very basic but quite refreshing.

Beginning with the pizza trail, Chef Rahul Gladwin first offered me a New York style cheese pizza. It was simple and tasty, something that can be had on a daily basis. All the sauces are made in-house. I also tried supreme which was again a very well made pizza. The dough had such a nice balance and was holding the toppings really well. An Indian-ised version with chicken tikka as the topping really gave out the flavour of a tikka right from the grill though slightly spicy. Another take by the chef on Indian flavours was the stuffed chicken makhni pizza. It is basically a closed pizza where the base is covered with another layer of dough, after putting the toppings giving it a pie sort of texture but really delicious. It’s as good as biting into a butter chicken with a tandoori roti. The trial of the pizza section concluded with a ham and pineapple pizza in which the chicken ham was diced evenly with pineapple and covered by a layer of mozzarella and ricotta giving it a nice creamy texture. The pineapple also helped to balance out the flavour and provided a nice tanginess to the pizza. One thing Sbarro should work on is their desserts but they can’t be blamed much as they are all outsourced.
