Director Anand Gandhi, whose Ship of Theseus has won the best film award says, “It is nice to have the validation from the State. It has come at a time when our political documentary Proposition For A Revolution is about to release.” Anand says the film talks about how multiple realities can coexist and it supplements the idea of India as an incredibly diverse place where there is always scope for dialogue. It is a double delight for him as Gulabi Gang , which was also produced by Recyclewala Labs, the production house that Gandhi is associated, has also won the award for the best film on social issues.
Anand has been a staunch critic of mainstream cinema and the support it gets from the state. So it can be assumed that some of his anger must have dissipated. “I was not angry. I was disappointed and that is still there. Look at the political atmosphere and the media’s enthusiasm for non-democratic processes,” remarks Gandhi
Who would have thought that a guy who wrote the episodes of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi would make such a profound film? “The habit of pigeonholing people is dangerous.” No wonder, his next feature film is a horror story!
