Among different seasons, winter is considered to be more important than others. During winter, heat of the body does not get released because of cold waves and as a result, digestion power of the body increases in this season. It is considered to be the best from the health point of view as it gives more strength to the body. Though so many health problems get solved automatically during winter, the problem relating to hair is an exception.

Due to severe cold and being on Dakshinayan, not only our skin gets dry but the hair too becomes dry and dull. Although in winter, hair isn't washed as regularly like in summer but the use of hot water results in the release of extra oil from the oil glands which stick to our skull's skin. If not properly handled, it may lead to hair dandruff. Here are a few remedies that one can follow to keep dandruff at bay.

Wash hair once in a week positively and do conditioning also.

Apply any oil and use steamed towel. Avoid coconut oil as its gets frozen in winter and it can also stick to head's skin. Closing of pores can cause many ailments pertaining to hair.

Mix one teaspoon of coconut oil and one tea spoon of lemon juice with “Fullers earth” and apply this paste to hair for one hour. It will definitely give relief from dandruff.

Don't rinse hair with hot water. It should be normal tap water as hot water opens up pores resulting in dandruff.

Conditioning of hair is more required in winter than in summer. During winter there is more moisture in hair and conditioning helps to retain the moisture as well as increase the shining of hair. Henna can be used for conditioning, but add one teaspoon of oil to it as it is very dry.

Mix a few drops of ginger juice with olive oil and apply it to the roots of hair for one hour and then wash with shampoo. (Shikakai and Methi seeds can be used for this).

Also apply “Bhringraj oil” at night to prevent dandruff and use shampoo the next day.

Before washing hair, comb them with a brush. As a result, dead cells (dandruff) disappear, the oil glands become active and oil released from the oil glands can also be cleaned.

Add two big spoons of thyme to two cups of water, boil it for ten minutes, filter it and let it cool. Apply this mixture to your hair and ensure that the mixture spreads to the whole of the skull. Thereafter, massage the skull gently.

Don't comb or brush time and again because by doing so the oil glands get activated and extra oil releases from them.
