Get everything you need for your party in one box!

Ever had a last minute idea or a long thought out plan for a party but can’t find the time to bring it all together? With handpicked and curated products and accessories that are sure to suit your needs, Party in a Box gives you the perfect solution. B. Krishna Chaitanya and Ransdale Mathew’s new venture puts together everything one might need to throw a bash at home without the hassle of shopping. Be it a tea party, afternoon soiree for six or a new year bash for 20 guests, they have it all. Customised to suit your needs, it’s a party all the way!

How did the idea for Party in a Box come about?

We both have a passion to entertain. One Diwali, we wanted to throw a small party for friends but due to work commitments we could not get together all the things we needed for a party in a short span of time. We thought it would be ideal if we could call someone who could provide us all the essentials for an occasion-specific party without us doing most of the work. That’s how the idea came about. We don’t call ourselves party planners, we provide a box filled with all the goods you need to throw a party without hiring a planner or going to a store, thus saving you time and effort looking for great party elements.

What was the prep work you did before deciding on the venture?

Apart from the basics, we looked into what types of festivals and events people celebrate the most in Chennai and India. We also had a lot of fun during prep work because we got to play around with a lot of fun party supplies and see what will work for the market while giving us an edge over others. Being a web-based business with no store-front, we eliminate those costs while giving the customer high quality products sourced from Chennai and abroad.

How has the response been so far?

It has been great! We’ve got orders from Delhi and Mumbai and for varied themes like sporting events, birthdays and bridal showers. We have been surprised at what age groups look for boxes — people want to party but don’t have the time nowadays to plan or arrange it. The expat community too finds it easy to go through us as they aren’t familiar with where to shop for supplies. During the festival season we worked on Christmas and New Year boxes apart from customising boxes. We require a week’s notice for a customised box; existing boxes can be delivered in three to four working days. Each box has about 25 items in it.

Which has been your favourite customised order yet? What is a customised theme each of you would love to work on?

Our favourite one so far has to be a 50th birthday we did for a lady. Her friends wanted a fun box for the party with things that can embarrass the birthday girl. So we had fun picking up things like a walking stick, dentures, adult diapers among others; we also added fun elements to the party by adding feather boas for each guest and custom posters. An event we would love to work on is Diwali as that is how this idea of Party in a Box came about! We would have many fabulous ideas and might even make one for ourselves.

What are your future plans for Party in a Box?

We hope to attain a system in the future where we could eliminate postage charges for our customers so that we reach a wider audience. Plans for more boxes and party ideas which are catching up in the party scene in India are also in the pipeline. We also want to have a website soon to cater to a wider audience since we only work from a FB page as of now.
