“You should cut an album.” This is what the guys from Parikrama told the three-member band that won the NXg Rockstar.
Glue’s drummer Peter Francis Joshua confesses to being a little shocked at the comment, given that the band is just two months old. What’s more surprising is that this was the band’s first performance as a trio; that too with the lead guitarist stepping in for the “absconding” lead singer!
NXg talks to Peter, who was also adjudged the best drummer, about their newly formed band and fame…
How did you guys get together?
I play with 83MPH and Joshua Menon (bassist) and Mohammed Sameer(vocalist and lead guitarist) are with Ghost Note. We met on the music circuit and realised we were compatible as a unit.
We were talking about the idea of forming a band two months ago and started jamming only a month back. Though we will continue performing together, we will also be playing with the other bands that we are a part of.
Why ‘Glue’?
We are a bunch of retards, so I thought of the name “Retard”. But Sameer said people wouldn’t take us seriously and suggested Glue. It’s funky and also goes with our aim to create music that “sticks” with people.
Why just three of you?
We were a four-member band but, one fine day, our vocalist absconded. We have no idea where he is. In fact, we were even thinking of putting an ad in the papers! (laughs)
Since we were already compatible and had a style as a band, we didn’t want to have somebody new and teach him our style. We knew Sameer could sing, so we made him step in.
Did you get to speak to the judges?
Not to Ed, but we heard him say on stage that we were a “bad a**”band! We did speak to Parikrama though, who said they really loved us and that we should cut a record deal, as there is a lack of good old school rock and roll. And that’s what we were aiming at too; bring back rock and roll, AC-DC-type, and show people where it all started!
Future plans…
First, create a Facebook page and put some material out. We are also looking forward to performing more and coming out with at least a demo album. But we would like to take things as they come for now.
