A myriad colours, music that sets you grooving, and a grand stage all set for the 30-odd competing teams... this is what you would have seen at the preliminary round of The Hindu NXg Campus Jive held last week at the Anna Auditorium, where the teams fought it out to make it to the top 12.
Groovy
From hip hop, freestyle to contemporary dance, the colleges put their best foot forward as they entertained the audience with foot-tapping numbers and neatly choreographed items, all within the allotted four minutes. It didn't seem a lot of time but it was enough to enthral the audience and the judges alike. Hip hop definitely remained the favourite among most of the college teams as they infused it with stunts, formations and other gimmicks. The Hindu NXg Campus Jive also served as a platform for upcoming talent to showcase their skills and keep their passion alive. Though many teams participated in the first edition, the presentations for Campus Jive 2010 were fresh and new.
The judges for the preliminary round were hip-hop specialist AJ; contemporary dancer and Kalaripayattu performer Vasanth; and western dance specialist Mani. Three judges specialising in different art forms ensured free and fair judgment.
Though the boys outnumbered the girls, it was nice to see the latter put up a tough fight and make it to the finals. In the end, the judges had a tough time zeroing in on the top 12 for the finals. After a nerve-wracking few minutes (for the participants of course), the judges finally announced their pick.
Here's wishing all the finalists the best of luck at tomorrow's finals, as the star judges are sure to expect only the best to win the grand prize. So, block your calendar and set your alarm and get set to Jive tomorrow.
