One Saturday morning, I was travelling from Ambattur to Thirumangalam by bus. During the travel I noticed that most commuters were busy with their cell phones and earphones wired into their ears, were missing all the sights and sounds on the road such as dog fights, a girl drawing a kolam with powdered rice, a baby crying and so on.
After a while, I was curious to take a peek into the smartphone of a guy who was standing beside me. He seemed to be multi-tasking, as he switched from one app to another at the speed of lightning. At first, he had been playing the game Subway Surf, then switched to another called Dr. Driving. He followed it up with the Facebook app and Whatsapp, then answered a call from his mother. After the conversation, he switched over to the radio, surfing one station after the other. He then went back to playing songs from his playlist — this time it was a song from the movie Jilla .
Then all of a sudden, the bus braked and all of us jerked forward, but that guy beside me didn’t even look up to see what made the driver apply the brakes. Instead, he just switched over to the next song, this time from Veeram . I was shocked!
Finally I alighted at my stop and continued on my journey with a smile thinking about the almost-humanoid guy and his smartphone.
