Last week the city witnessed ‘Chennai's largest launch and competition': Melange — an initiative of Amadeus Global Studios — at Museum Theatre, Egmore. Founder and CEO of Amadeus Global Studios, Rajiv Menon started composing at the age of 12 and has more than eight years experience in composing, arranging, mixing and mastering.
On stage
The event kick-started with a performance by students of Soundtech Media. The competition then started with the five bands that had made it to the finals of Melange, taking the stage. The panel of judges included Lewis, faculty of Soundtech Media, and Eugene Guest, drummer of the band Crossroads.
Deviance, the winning band, had the audience headbanging in sync with their performance. They won a cash prize of Rs.50, 000.
Then, it was time for the launch — four bands, four albums and different genres. Illusions, the first band to be launched, entertained the audience with fusion. Following it was Scatter Brained, who played soft rock. Up next was Vidyuth, a progressive rock band, who kept the capacity crowd entertained with their electrifying performance.
But the band that stole the launch was Poriyal, a Tamil rock band formed by students of Madras Christian College, Chennai. Everybody left the hall charged up.
