On a recent camping vacation, I came across a boy who was probably 12-years-old. I don’t know who he is, but something dawned upon me at the end of the camp. That children’s behaviour is drastically different from the time when we were children.
This young man I was referring to was absolutely out of control. He was hardly aware of what he was saying, treated people badly and was for most of the time engrossed deeply in his iTouch. He complained about everything.
I don’t mean to stereotype but a majority of children are growing up in a different environment. They are after all children and will learn as they grow... But what if the quality of that growth is coagulated? What about tomorrow when they will have to face life for real all by themselves? It’s become a rare sight to see kids with toys and crayons. If this is how it is in 2013, it’s scary to look ahead.
Someone told me, what you are at the end of your teens, is what you will pretty much be for the rest of your life. Brash, unsettled, unsure, restless, are the words often used to describe them. Perhaps one day that could change for better or for worse.
