The Youth for Peace Initiative was conceived with the intent to engage young people in developing concepts of peace at three levels: ideological, practical and analytical on ‘Peace and I'.
“Youth For Peace” will have the following themes selected from Gandhi's teachings.
Cleanliness is Godliness (Garbage, water, electricity, plants, personal cleanliness and surroundings.)
Individual action leads to collective power (seven deadly sins as seen by Gandhi and looking at individual action for the above mentioned themes)
Love and peace are ultimate weapons (equality, sharing of resources, dignity of labour, war etc)
Now, it's your turn to be the change that you want to see. Based on these themes, come up with ideas that you think can make a positive difference in society and its people. Mail your ideas to: email@example.com
Responses to last week's quote:
I strongly believe in the quote as I have seen those sort of sensitive and peevish people who misconstrue self respect. But practically speaking, finding people with admirable self respect is a rarity today. I feel that one must know where one's self respect should spring up and intervene. Some times circumstances may force us to forego our self respect.. And the classic example is a mother who not only sacrifices her comforts but also her self respect for the sake of her children and also for the successful functioning of her family. Meticulously analyse the ambience and act accordingly. — SRIVIDHYA SAMPATH, First Year, B.E., College of Engineering, Guindy
The Mahatma managed to condense the profound with his simplicity. But I would add that the over sensitive also do not understand dignity but they understand isolation. There is a certain lack of dignity that follows such people, when they cannot maintain the relationships that are most important to them, simply because they anticipate insults that aren't looking for them. — RACHEL PAMELA JOSEPH, III Year, B.A. English, Women's Christian College
Self respect and rightful dignity are those acquired when one is true to one's conscience. They are built on human virtues and must not be linked only to social/ economic status. No job is inferior, if done with the right spirit- Some shocking exceptions to this being Manual Scavenging, still going on in some parts of our country. — VASUPRADHA M., IV Year, B.E C.Sc., SRM Easwari Engineering College
Quote of the week
Peace is not the absence of conflict but a fair means of dealing with the conflict. - M.K. Gandhi
Do you agree with the statement?
What then is fair means of dealing with conflict? Any real stories?
