Meet Hugo
The story is set in old time Paris. Living between station walls is Hugo Cabret, a boy of 12 who passes each day by setting clocks right and being a part-time thief. The son of a clockmaker, Hugo often accompanied his father to the movies, especially those made by director extraordinaire, George Melies.
His father, driven by his love for machines, brings a rejected automaton (an extraordinary creation capable of making wonders) from the museum and immediately decides to fix the little metal man.
After his father's death, Hugo takes it upon himself to fix the automaton .On his quest to find a special key, he runs into Isabelle, a girl his age who is yearning for an adventure. Isabelle's godfather happens to be George Melies.
How the two friends help Melies rediscover the forgotten man in him forms the rest of the story.
Winning performances
Asa Butterfield as Hugo is definitely a kid to watch out for as he wins your heart. With childlike innocence and wit, Butterfield captivates with his screen presence. Chloë Grace Moretz as the adventurous Isabelle is just as mesmerising.
Impeccably essayed by Sir Ben Kingsley is the magician of movies, George Melies. Jude Law, as Hugo's father, has a small but vital role. It is Sacha Baron Cohen, as the suspicious Station Inspector, who provides the comic angle. Completing the winning circle is the rest of the cast, with their small but notable performances.
“Hugo” promises to be the find of the season, its every frame weaving magic.
Bottomline : Oscar-worthy!
