I am a student from Nashik and I want to file a RTI application against various government departments in my city. But would it be a good time for me to do this or should I concentrate on my studies? I am dependent on my parents and this has left me confused about whether or not I should take this step.

CONFUSED

It is admirable that you want to make the most of being an active participant in a democracy; however, as a student, empower yourself with knowledge first and concentrate on your studies. If you are keen on making a difference to your community, volunteer at a local NGO that is serving your area of interest. Many might actually be in the process of filing RTIs or reaping the benefits of doing so. By joining them you will be able to understand what it takes to do the same yourself.
