Fashion is what you’re offered four times a year; style is what you choose out of fashion. Telling us what’s in vogue is Esenemes, an endeavour by Shraddha Nair and Mallika Singh. Their designs — chic, urbane, offbeat and hippie — are inspired by art, history and every day things.
Shraddha and Mallika were always interested in art and design. With free time on their hands after Std X, they decided to take the plunge into the world of fashion. They are each other’s inspiration and support. Officially on Facebook since April 1 (www.facebook.com/esenemes), the collection includes belts, bags, clutches, sling bags, T-shirts and tank tops; customised to an extent to match one’s persona.
Success story
Despite being only five months old, Esenemes has held four exhibitions so far; the response has been wonderful. They’ve received encouragement, learnt about the market and also expanded their customer base. They’ve launched exclusive collections of clutches and leather belts. The grandest feather in their cap so far is their move abroad. They’ve built relationships with two retailers in Dubai and a selection of their products has already found room in a multi-brand store in Dubai.
The girls work from home, selling products priced from Rs. 300 upwards. They have tweaked existing products to be more diverse, with more designs, added floral patterns, glitzy sequin work, patchwork, stripes, polka dots and lots more in many different colours.
They say, “Esenemes represents the connection between two entirely different worlds: symphony in the chaos of a cacophony. Esenemes is where strawberries are served with a dash of lemon, glamorous meets funky, where a race car is called panache and delicate ties itself to the bold.”
