I turn 18 in a month and, unlike the majority of my friends, the most exciting thing about it for me isn’t the legal drinking or driving. Maybe driving is a little exciting but what I am most excited about is the right to vote; to decide the fate of my country.
But the question is ‘whom do I vote for?’ Do I choose a party whose members are deeply embroiled in a national-level scam, a self-obsessed politician who spends government money on nothing but negating the few good deeds done by the previous government or a politician who attends election campaigns in an inebriated state.
Under these circumstances, the wisest decision I can make is: one, ignore the most important right I hold as a citizen, since each choice is no better than the other. Else, I can always weigh my decision based on one of my future bribes: a colour TV, a green cycle, a laptop and so on.
I guess turning 18 isn’t turning out to be all that exciting for me any more.
