A techie gets a rude wake up call to reality as his “perfect” life is turned upside down…

Techie at Heart is the story of a software engineer Karthik. A traditional Tam-Brahm, his family believes that education is of the utmost importance.

After completing his degree he joins a reputed software company thinking his life is set for good. He has the perfect life — loving family, good job and girlfriend; so he thinks until things start to change.

Although Karthik is perfect, nothing around him seems to be. His company makes him work long hours, his girlfriend cheats on him and eventually dumps him and his sister decides to get divorced and marry a married man.

The rest of the book shows his journey in trying to control things.

Special mention

The characters seem real and it definitely feels like an autobiographical story. His fire and ice relationship with his roomie, Aditya needs a special mention — it delineates the typical ‘engineering’ attitude of today’s generation and how they behave. The one thing different from other romantic novels was the love brewing between Karthik and Aarti — how he falls in love with her and supports her till the end is remarkably described.

High points

Techie at Heart makes for a short and light read. It’s Karthik’s journey from a naive guy to a man who sees reality and accepts it for what it is. We get to see the hype which surrounds engineers on an everyday basis.

The writing is simple and precise. The book has an appealing cover design and a fun feel to it. If you are travelling, this novel will make a good companion.
