The driving factor behind Blueprint…
I was always fascinated with the making of clothes, the construction of the garment, fabric sourcing and cutting and so on. So I took up a job under a designer in Chennai for two years during which I learnt about factors like sourcing, dyeing, embroidery etc. And then I started the label.
How did passion turn into profession?
Both Navya and I are good artists. We get the talent from our mother who is an amazing painter. After my work experience, I thought I had it in me to start designing clothes on my own. When I spoke to my sister, she was so excited that she wanted to join in as well.
Was the initial phase rough?
We arranged for a fashion show at Accord Metropolitan where our launch collection was showcased. It was a huge success, lots of people spoke about our label and the press took notice of our collection. But the real work started only after that.
Your goals?
Blueprint’s long-term goal is to take part in the fashion week. Once we do that, people will start taking notice. We have to make that kind of quality product. Our immediate goal will be to finish our Autumn-Winter collection and add variety and newness to the collection.
The one element that sets Blueprint apart?
Our style. We always ensure that it is simple and elegant. The ability to learn and try new things, to look at something different and get inspired is what the key to our success is.
Who was your greatest inspiration and support?
Our parents have been our greatest inspiration. Without their support and involvement, I don't think we could have come this far. We owe a lot to our friends as well, who have been a tremendous support through our journey.
Better designer, you or Navya?
When I once said that she was the better designer, she replied that we were the blueprint of each other.
How do you deal with the ups and downs in business?
It has been a rollercoaster ride but we love it. It is important that we accept the lows. Once we do, we appreciate the highs better.
