Taking a unprecedented step towards the big bad world of Bollywood with a fresh concept and a debutant cast, is the team of Badlapur Boys , a movie that depicts the plight of Indian farmers and the solutions they work out to deal with these issues.

A mix of drama, romance and comedy, the movie intends to give out not one, but two strong social messages blended in a very unique manner.

The plot revolves around the farmers of Badlapur being affected by the irrigation conditions and the consequences of lack of resources in their lives. Meanwhile, the kabaddi team of Badlapur, which generally does not perform well and loses almost all the matches it plays, decides to step up and play, despite the politics they face during the selection process. This aspect of the storyline turns the focus on the fading light of kabaddi in our country and the need to preserve it. All in all, with a fresh group of minds working together, this movie aims at capturing the audience’s attention on matters that are somewhere in the background with no spotlight on them, but still are as grave.

During a tête-à-tête, director Shailesh Verma spoke about his thoughts about the movie and his experience directing it.

“The cases of farmer suicides in our country are increasing and many of them of them are not even known. As an artist, I wanted to use my art to give the people of this country a clear idea of what is happening and how the farmers are suffering. Besides that, the slow death of kabaddi in our country is also appalling. There is no harm in learning from the positives of others, but it is imperative that we keep our roots strong.”

Actor Nishan plays the male lead (Vijay). He has worked in several Malayalam movies before Badlapur Boys . The female lead (Sapna), played by Saranya Mohan, who has worked in Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil films, initially found it difficult to converse fluently in Hindi but ended up doing a good job. This movie also sees the extremely talented and versatile Annu Kapoor playing the kabaddi coach.

The kabaddi team of Badlapur seen in the movie includes several state level kabaddi players and a special coach from Maharashtra was hired to train the entire cast of the film.

With a message that plays the dark horse in today’s world, this movie will, hopefully, create a stir.
