Reality shows are on the rise. And to get noticed in this jungle of shows, many bank on dramatisation, some on profanities and then there are a few that become popular because of real talents on the show. This is especially true of the music and dance shows. Remember Antakshari, Voice of India, Music ka Maha Muqabla…, where gifted contestants showcased their melodious voices? These are all shows by Saibaba Telefilms, which has pioneered innumerable cult music programmes. And the good news is the production company is making its foray into the market down South. “We are making our debut with ‘Sangeeta Mahayuddham,' which is billed to be the biggest music reality show in South India,” says Rajib Chatterjee, CEO Saibaba Telefilms.
Starting June 12 the show in Tamil will air on Sun TV every weekend. “Not just Tamil, we will also have the programmes in Kannada on Udaya, Telugu on Gemini and Malayalam on Surya,” adds Chatterjee. The show will bring brings six well known music directors and singers as captains on the same platform. Vijay Yesudas, Mathangi, Srilekha, Anupama, Devan and Madhu Balkrishnan, will each be armed with a team of young talent to compete with each other. On the market in the South Chatterjee says, “It's a vast market and Tamil Nadu has always been a hub for great talent for the entertainment industry. Moreover the future of the Indian media is in its regional markets.”
