For television host and actor Rannvijay Singh, making the youth connect is of utmost importance. That is what he tries to do with his latest movie 3AM , a supernatural thriller. “I think smart intelligent audiences are what our films are made for,” he says.

The movie, he says, is not scary with women in white saris or a mansion in the middle of nowhere. “It’s a straightforward concept about a TV show host. The love of his life dies mysteriously and after moments of grieving, he and his friends decide to make a show about paranormal activities like ghost hunters. Three of us go to the spot where she died and try to prove if there is paranormal activity. He thinks that if he proves it, then he will be one step closer to his loved one, reconnect with her and find out what happens after death. It’s a question that intrigues everyone in the world. The fear of the unknown is in the afterlife and in this kind of a haunting. That’s what the movie dwells on.”

Directed by Vishal Mahadkar, the film stars Rannvijay Singh, Anindita Nayar, Salil Acharya and Kavin Dave in lead roles.

On why movies centring around the supernatural are picking up in Bollywood, Rannvijay says that it’s a genre that is trending. “The difference is in our film, there is no gimmick or monster. It’s a realistic storyline. It’s not entirely horror. There is romance just like a typical Bollywood movie. There is camaraderie among friends and curiosity of the unknown. You will laugh too, since at times the friends pull each other’s legs.”

On how he feels about his journey so far, the actor says his film career has taught him a lot. “My first film Toss was one of the toughest to make. Everything that had to go wrong did so in that film. The situation changed with London Dreams, which was my best movie ever. I got to act with big stars like Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai later. This gave me authenticity as an actor and showed people that I’m here to stay.”
