Musee Musicals has launched Ambrosia, a new space to showcase the work of senior and upcoming artists. It was inaugurated by pianist Anil Srinivasan on March 8, with an exhibit of woman-centric paintings by Manisha Raju.
The shows will be curated by artists A. Udayashankar and Meenakshi Madhan, and will focus on a new theme each month. Udayashankar says, “As we launched the space on International Women’s Day, this month is dedicated to women artists, and these shows will be titled Manikarnika (Rani Lakshmibhai of Jhansi’s first name).”
The next show, from March 15 to 21, will feature upcoming artists from Nagpur and Chennai and the show after, from March 22 to 28, will have artists from Chennai and Pondicherry. “We will not be showcasing artists who have already had exhibits, but will also pick up talented students from city colleges. In fact, from April 15, we will have a student’s show. The space will be given to them free of cost, and we will also print invites and publicise for them,” says Udayashankar. Others can also approach Ambrosia for hiring the space.
The artists showcased each month will follow a pattern, says Udayashankar: first week will be for senior artists, second will be for upcoming artists and third for new artists. Ambrosia is the brainchild of Sachin Das, proprietor of Musee Musicals and his partner in their architectural firm ViSDA, Vivek Mahajan.
