For Jade’s Monica Shah and Karishma Swali it may only be their second show at the Lakme Fashion Week, but the duo has been making its presence felt on the fashion scene with exquisite designs since 2008. Monica and Karishma, who have dressed the likes of Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai and Deepika Padukone, talk about their second outing at LFW Winter/Festive.

Past perfect Our collection is titled ‘In the Temples of Hoysala’. The line is inspired by traditional architecture and workmanship.

Show is on LFW is a great platform to showcase your creativity and we’re glad to be part of such a well-curated event. It helps to connect with other artistic individuals, be it designers or actors who come to watch the show — engaging you in thought-proving discussions.

Fame and fear Showing at LFW is every designer’s dream. When the collection is appreciated, we feel as designers we are on the right track. It’s about nervous energy.

Two is company Though we have differing personal tastes, we have similar aesthetic leanings. We completely agree upon the basic philosophy of Jade — incorporating India’s arts into our designs .

Design inspiration Travelling is an integral part of our creative process. A visit to the Hoysala temples triggered this new collection. Even if we are not moving out of the city, we have to constantly draw inspiration as artists.

Twist in tradition The modern bride is a fashion force to reckon with in her own right. Today, women are opting for more stylised versions of traditional wear. Major bridal trends this year would be intricate embroidery that enhances the ensemble as well as experimentation with silhouettes and cuts.
