The Madras Players presents Tara, a Mahesh Dattani play directed by Tehzeeb Katari. Tara is a tale about a feisty girl, who isn’t given the same opportunities, by her family, as her brother Chandan. Tara and Chandan were conjoined twins, separated when they were babies. The drama circles around a dark secret and its devastating revelation.
Tara takes a peek at modern society that often claims to be liberal. Dattani explores both gender discrimination and the class system. These, he believes, are the most visible forms of discrimination in our country. The inspiration for the play is said to have come from an article Mahesh Dattani read about Siamese Twins. The play, written over 20 years ago, is relevant even today.
The play features Vinod Anand, Jog Yapee, Shaan Katari Libby, Abhinav Suresh, Shankar Sundaram, Weena Pradhan and Nandini Krishnan. The play will be staged at 7.15 p.m. on March 1, 2 and 3 at the Museum Theatre, Egmore. Donor passes are available for Rs. 400, Rs. 250 and Rs. 150.
