“Madhurameejeevitham” remembers and re-lives composer K. Raghavan’s eternal music

K. Raghavan, the musician who tuned love and angst for a generation of listeners with “ Kayalarikkathu” and “Shyamasundara pushpame”, will be remembered on his first death anniversary on Saturday. The musical memoriam curated by his son R. Kanakambaran and the music director’s friends and well-wishers is titled “Madhurameejeevitham” after the musician’s biography. “Kozhikode has been home to my father for 37 years. He joined the All-India Radio is 1960,” says Kanakambaran. “Madhurameejeevitham” will pay tribute to Raghavan master through his 32 memorable songs. Actor Balachandra Menon will inaugurate the event and the concert will be conducted by music director C. Rajamani, son of Raghavan’s long-time friend and music director B.A. Chidambaranath. Jayaraj Warrier will compere.

Singers who will be re-living Raghavan’s eternal numbers are Sudeep Kumar, Sriram, Satish Babu, Keertana, Merin Gregory and others. “My father’s popular compositions like “ Nadapuram palliyile”, “Manju Bhashini” and “Shyamasundara pushpame”, will be sung,” says Kanakambaran.

The event is sponsored by Calicut City Service Co-op Bank and will take place at Tagore Centenary Hall today from 6 p.m. onwards.
