A consummate artiste who went beyond the text and experimented with the Koodiyattam and Nangiarkoothu repertoire, Margi Sathi continues to inspire scores of her disciples and admirers, Margi Sindhu being one among them.

It was in June 2015 that Sindhu began staging the full text of Sree Rama Charitham Nangiarkoothu, one among the noted productions of Sathi, at Rangasree, residence-cum-Koodiyattam/Nangiarkoothu centre started by the latter in memory of her late husband, at Karamana. The performance was held on the second Saturday of every month. But Sindhu couldn’t continue it for long and was forced to take a break. Now she is reviving the series with a three-day performance at Rangasree from June 27. “Rangasree is in its tenth year now. Sathi chechi was worried about the future of Rangasree when she was not keeping well. It was then that I decided to do my bit for keeping it afloat. I did it out of my respect for her. It was under her guidance that I started staging Sree Rama Charitham , which has 224 shlokas in all, narrating Seetha’s nirvahanam. Unfortunately I had to wind it up after purappadu and six stories (17 shlokas). I was fortunate that Sathi chechi could see five of those performances. Although we decided to revive the performance after she passed away, that didn’t materialise. I am happy that we are re-starting it and working towards realising her dream. There are many portions in Sree Rama Charitham that Sathi chechi had not performed and I have included all of them,” says Sindhu. Sree Rama Charitham , written by Sathi as part of her research work, is based on ‘Seetha Pravesham’ from the third angam of Uthara Ramacharitham .

Sindhu adds that from next month onwards there will be regular staging of the text once or twice a month. On June 27, the event begins at 5.30 p.m. with Rangasree Revathi, Sathi’s daughter, commemorating her mother. She will talk about Sathi’s productions. It will be followed by Sindhu’s presentation of Thadakavadham . While Ahalyamoksham will be staged on June 28, Seethaswayamvaram will be presented on June 29. Time: 6 p.m.
