B.R. Nikshep has scripted many great wins in the recent times and the 17-year-old tennis player was presented the Ekalavya award – the highest State recognition for sportspersons - deservingly for his exploits, last November. The honour has motivated and pushed the young lad further. Like any other aspiring sportsperson on the fringe of breaking into the top league, Nikshep says, “I want to represent India in the Davis Cup and the Olympics and bring laurels to the nation.”
Going by the way the youngster has shaped up and showcased his potential, the day of him donning India colours is surely not far away. It all began when he was a seven-year-old and success soon came his way when he won a State level tourney .
With over 80 titles at all levels - State, National and International - already in the bag, sky is the limit. As a 14-year-old, Nikshep was State, National and even Asia number one in his category and graduating into the higher age- groups is always a testing time – both in terms of skill and endurance - Nikshep has always come up trumps. “Even as an under-16, there have been many title credits to his name and now that he is in the under-18 category, the challenges are going to get tougher, ” says his father, B.K. Ravikumar.
“We have done everything to ensure that he achieves his goals. All the success and future endeavours come with a price and over Rs 70 lakh has been spent on his training and exposure tours annually. We hope corporates come forward and fund him,” quips Ravikumar .
