Chennai: Bollywood actors Abhishek Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, Aamir Khan and Uday Chopra during a promotional event of their upcoming movie 'Dhoom 3' in Chennai on Tuesday.

Were you impressed by the stunts Katrina did in Ek Tha Tiger ?

They were nothing compared to the one she has pulled off in Dhoom 3 , as Katrina Kaif told journalists during a press conference in the city to promote the film in Tamil. “The stunts in Dhoom 3 are circus stunts and more difficult than the ones in Ek Tha Tiger ,” said the actor who plays a circus artiste in the film.

Katrina Kaif flew in with Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra and director Vijay Krishna Acharya in a chartered plane and rushed back after a quick hour meet with the media. They all looked a little tired and didn’t quite bother to dress up.

Aamir just slipped on his Dhoom hat, Uday sported a simple jacket and the director Vijay Krishna Acharya a waist coat. But this was a rather low-key event compared to the elaborate show colourful Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone put up when they came to promote Chennai Express a while ago.

They all did feel a little challenged about being unable to speak Tamil and they all loved Chennai, like most Bollywood stars do.

Katrina has done Malayalam and Telugu films, but this is her first Tamil film even if dubbed. “My mother used to live here for a while before she moved, so it feels so good to be back,” said Katrina.

Aamir said he felt like a first-timer in a new language. “It will hopefully take my work to new Tamil audiences who haven’t been able to see my films because of the language barrier,” he said.

Aamir was quick to acknowledge his respect for Rajinikanth for his professionalism, his friend Suriya for convincing him that he can do Ghajini and K. Balachander for one of the most emotional nights of his life when he got the Gollapudi Srinivas Memorial award.

Abhishek Bachchan had been to Chennai many times before, thanks to his association with Mani Ratnam in Yuva , Guru and Raavan . “It is one of my favourite cities. I have done a lot of work here. It’s always a pleasure to be back, and I hope you do like the Tamil version,” said Bachchan Junior.

Uday Chopra who will be seen reprising his role after a long break said that Yash Raj Films was very excited about making inroads into the South with the dubbed version and a straight Tamil film next year.

The Dhoom 3-Tashan director was anxious. “I have been involved with the writing of the first two parts and was asked to write and direct this. I am curious to see how the Tamil audience responds,” he said.

Very few Hindi producers come down to promote their films here. Then why was the whole team here?

Chennai Express collected over Rs. 5 crore in the Tamil Nadu market, through the Hindi and Tamil versions... this is a big market for Bollywood,” Sreedhar Pillai, trade analyst and journalist explains.

Dhoom 3 has planned a 4,800-screen release around the world, including IMAX theatres (becoming the first Hindi film to be released in the format), and is hoping to release in 150 screens in Tamil Nadu alone on December 20.
