It's 11 a.m. and a swish set of women convenes at Le Royal Meridien in the trendiest outfits of the season. Of course, there are a few for whom fashion faux pas is normal. But anyway, this is not about them. They are all here to enjoy an afternoon of fun and fashion — a fashion show displaying the works of hair stylists Tommaso and Mindy Kim. The hour-long delay allows the audience ample time to socialise, compare bags and deconstruct / admire each others' outfit.
Tommaso and Mindy Kim of the Cotril Professionals team are in the city to train hair experts at Le Mirage.
Ananthi Periasamy, owner of the salon, says: “I wasn't getting the kind of styling I wanted in the salons here, so I decided to get them down here.”
Style your hair
The Cortil team has in store, five hairstyles and hair colours for women. Models of different age brackets parade about showing off their new hair dos. A screen by the side shows images of the women before they got their hair done. “It's easy to shock people, you just put green and red on the hair, and it's done... But, what is difficult is to style people in a way that will reflect the change,” says Tommaso.
Both the hairdressers feel Indian hair is silky and easy to work on. Their only qualm is women here are not experimental with their hair length. Tommaso advocates the use of an anti-humidity hair cream for this weather. About hair trends, Mindy excitedly says: “Headbands and bows are in!”
Not for just hairstyles, the fashion show also proves to be a platform for designer Satkrit Krishna to showcase his creations. The models are dressed in Satkrit's garments that comprise knee-grazing outfits in shades of black, white and grey.
“Colours such as purple and darker shades are in this season,” says the city-based designer. About silhouettes, he explains: “It's a variant. There are four types of bodies in India — Banana, Apple, Pear and Hour-Glass. It depends on the body type. Pear is the most common shape here.”
After the show ends, good music, games, drinks and and a delectable buffet menu ensures everybody has a good time.
