‘Confluence' is a solo art exhibition of spiritual portraits by Sunando Basu at New Delhi's Lalit Kala Akademi. Being organised under the ‘Art for Cancer' campaign to help the Indian Cancer Society, 40 per cent of the proceeds from the exhibition will go towards the cause.
Having evolved from themes like “Aatma' and ‘Brahma', Basu's work has a touch of the spiritual and personal. Each of the 52 paintings and three sculptures on display tells a story. For example, in the painting ‘Ojas', Basu refers to the power of a brahmachari. Ojas, the artist says, is the power of nature, using which one can even stop rain if he wants to.
“My art represents the invisible inner states existing in layers and folds and I wish that my work with the play of folds of colours explains the strong feeling of spatial depth. This time, through my art, I want to contribute funds to the Indian Cancer Society,” he says.
Basu started painting in his childhood and later graduated from the Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata. Showcasing in solo as well as in group shows, Basu won his first national award in 1999.
