Ahaana Krishna is living her father’s dream. The 19-year-old makes her debut opposite debutant Farhaan Faasil in Rajeev Ravi’s Njan Steve Lopez . As posters and publicity material make their appearance much before the release of the film, Ahana admits that it is her father, actor Krishnakumar, who is more excited than her about the release of the film.
Krishnakumar became a star of the small screen but could never replicate that success on the big screen despite some memorable roles in hit films. “My father says it was a dream of his to see posters featuring him in the lead. But he is now seeing it come true in his daughter’s dream debut,” says Aahana who plays Anjali, the protagonist’s childhood friend and neighbour.
Rajeev says he had met many youngsters in his search for the right face to play Anjali, an important character in his second film in which he calls the shots. “I had a certain image in my mind and we found it very difficult to find that person. So when Aahana agreed to do the role, it was actually a relief for us,” says Rajeev.
Ahaana adds that her parents helped her decide to make her debut in front of the camera as they were enthused by the fact that was a ‘Rajeev Ravi film.’ “It was like nothing I had expected. Firstly, Rajeev uncle insisted that I should use no make-up at all. I worried if all my acne would be seen on the big screen. Moreover it was sync sound and so I quaked at the thought of having to memorise huge pieces of dialogues. All my misgivings turned out to be misgivings. Acting without makeup was not the nightmare I had imagined. As for dialogues, he told me to understand what was the import of the conversation and situation and just say that in my own language…,” she laughs.
Since all the actors but for the hero were veterans from cinema or theatre, Ahaana says that every day taught her many things about acting and cinema, thanks to the generosity of the seniors.
Shot completely in the capital city, the films tells the story of Steve, a youngster who hails from the Latin Catholic community in the city.
She says she wants to wait and watch the result of her first film before she decides to sign the next one. Looks like another pretty star has been added to the firmament of Malayalam cinema.
