Mixlr is a live audio broadcasting service.

Mixlr is a live audio broadcasting service that was initially created for DJ’s and musicians, but is now embracing all kinds of music producers with its iPhone and Android apps.

You can get straight to the list of ongoing broadcasts by users, that is categorised by genre, straight from the opening screen. It covers everything – from rock to acoustic folk to world music. There is always plenty of music being broadcast. So, you might stumble upon something really good. When you are listening, you will be able to text chat with other listeners as well.

If you wish to get in the game, you can broadcast straight from your phone. All you have to do is enter a category and title for your broadcast and hit start to begin broadcasting. People can find your transmission through the directory system. You can also share a link through Facebook and Twitter, or send an invite to specific friends on Facebook. You can save your broadcast, if you want to, to your accounts show reel forever.

Mixlr works better on a phone than on a desktop, and the whole experience is quite beautiful. It does have a couple of issues.

Say, you finish your recording and it asks you if you want to save the broadcast. If you accidentally tap “no”, it is lost forever. This is something you must remember if you are reporting from a breaking news scene using the app. However, in most cases, people will be recording the broadcast using other means. So, this won’t really affect many people.

Mixlr is a wonderful app for anyone who wants to share their DJing or performing skills, report a breaking news, or just ramble on for anybody who listens!
