If the promos of the show are anything to go by, Nat Geo’s Science of Stupid looks like a fun, promising watch. Hosted by funny man and actor Manish Paul, the show puts together hilarious home-shot videos where things have gone horribly wrong. Manish then steps in – after he’s done with his comments – and explains why things didn’t go according to plan by “scientifically examining” the attempt. We caught up with Manish, who didn’t fail to entertain even over the phone. Excerpts…
What kind of videos have been picked up for the show?
These are really entertaining videos where people are attempting stunts from the bizarre to the mundane and failing miserably.
We tell the audience why these wheelies or backflips went wrong, by explaining the science behind it. This is done with the help of an animation that tells the audience the right way to attempt the stunt.
Why did you agree to host this show?
Well… it’s National Geographic and you cant say no to National Geographic. Moreover, they’ve given me an interesting coffee-mug that is actually a camera lens. I signed up right away!
Which home-shot video on the show made you go ‘whaaaat’?
There is this one video where a guy is sitting inside a shopping cart and his friends push him downhill. I couldn’t understand why someone would do that. A shopping cart has no brakes, how would you stop it?
You’ve seen dozens of these videos. What has been your learning from this show?
I’ve realised that humans are very inquisitive and want to know about everything. That’s why they sometimes attempt foolish things. But, the show has helped me question a lot of things around me and understand the science behind it.
I’ve also learnt some simple things like if you’ve had a lot of chilli and your mouth is burning, don’t drink gallons of water. A sip of milk will help reduce the burning sensation almost immediately.
Science of Stupid will be telecast from Monday to Friday, 9 pm on National Geographic Channel.
