The second edition of director Luv Ranjan’s take on friends, romantic relationships and bonds, Pyaar ka Punchnama2, is due for release on October 16. This film presents a new set of characters that are, again, caught in a tussle. This reboot of battle of sexes stars Kartik Aaryan along with Nushrat Bharucha, Sunny Singh Nijjar, Sonalli Sehgall, Omkar Kapoor and Ishita Sharma.

“The film will retain the essence of Pyar ka Punchnama ,” says Kartik, revealing that there’s more relationship gyan to be doled out in this one. “In the first film, I played Gogo who was subdued and completely dominated by his friends and girlfriend. In this film, I play a polar opposite character, one who is confident of his actions and doesn’t get kicked around,” he says. Besides the debut in Pyaar ka Punchnama , Kartik was seen in Subhash Ghai’s Kanchi . He entered the film industry while doing his second year engineering and Kartik reflects, “People get a launch pad when they are in their mid 20s. I was just 20 and didn’t know the ways of the industry. I thought offers would come pouring in once you act in a film. I didn’t know one has to network.” In the meantime, he completed engineering at the insistence of his parents. “My family is filled with doctors, barring me,” he says.

In his debut film, he went by what Luv Ranjan wanted him to do and says the team had nothing to lose. “Since the first film turned out to be extremely successful, there is some amount of pressure on us to get it right this time as well. The director didn’t want to make a second film for the heck of it. This film deals with many other issues in relationships and youngsters will relate to it. When the story was narrated, I knew it would be another laugh riot,” he says.

After the release of Pyaar ka Punchnama , Kartik says he was greeted with youngsters who connected with the film wherever he went. “I thought women would hate me for that monologue where I rant about how women behave in relationships. On the contrary, a lot of girls told me they had a good laugh. I was happy they took it in a lighter vein, in the right spirit.”

Kartik is set to repeat his monologue act, this time lasting over eight minutes. “I had to unlearn the first monologue and start fresh. It took some effort,” he says.
