Here was a firm hand and a willing companion who ensured the youngster didn’t feel lost under the spotlight.

Iyer’s success also drove home the point that a good first-class cricketer can adapt to the demands of T20. “It comes from sound technique. At any level of cricket, you need the basic technique to excel and I have always insisted that the basics of the game cannot be compromised,” said Amre

Amre’s technical understanding of the art of batting sets him apart. His knowledge helped Iyer to establish himself as a technically stable opener for Daredevils. In that sense, he stood apart from many youngsters who have shone in the IPL.

Hence, it was a strong link from domestic cricket that ensured Iyer never felt out of place in the noise and glitz of IPL. While his first steps are encouraging, they should serve as a lesson to all franchises. If IPL teams choose local coaches and players and allow them time to nurture and develop a strong cricketing relationship, we will see many more IPL finds.
