Some like it hot while others like it cold. But almost everyone loves the hot and cold combination of Bengaluru’s most popular dessert – hot chocolate fudge. Easily the best combination of hot chocolate oozing over vanilla ice cream drizzled with roasted peanuts on top, the dessert is synonymous with good times in Bengaluru. Served best in the city’s popular ice cream haven – Corner House, MetroPlus scoops in on the hot chocolate fudge story. Shravan Santosh, a Chennai-bred academic author now based in Bengaluru, says hot chocolate fudge is the best way to achieve death by chocolate. “One of the best discoveries I’ve made in the city is Corner House’s hot chocolate fudge. It is one of the reasons my move to Bengaluru has been easier. You can’t go wrong with it. It seems so simple – hot chocolate poured over vanilla ice cream – yet, the combination is mind-blowing. And with the way the weather is nowadays, it is the ideal combination to chill out.” Jayaseeli Rodricks, a teacher and regular at Corner House, agrees. “I try to pay a visit at least once a month to my favourite ice cream joint. I love ice cream and chocolate. Who won’t fall in love with the perfect mix of the two!” She adds that it is the best way to beat the heat. “It’s the end to a heavy meal, especially with family and friends. And, if someone is treating me, it is all the more fun! While it is a bit expensive, it is worth every rupee. This is one dessert I love coming back to every single time.”

Though launched in 1982 as a bakery and fast food joint on a corner of Residency Road, behind the erstwhile Galaxy Theatre, by founder A. Narayan Rao, it wasn’t until the fateful day of August 3, 1995 that he realised Corner House’s true calling lay in its ice creams. That was the day the cooks hadn’t turned up for work and Rao ended up serving only ice creams to his customers. It was a massive hit! Despite the numerous restaurants around the joint, not one served desserts. Thus began Corner House’s foray into the ice cream industry. From the humble beginning on Residency Road, it has now blossomed into 14 outlets across the city, all the while serving the hot chocolate fudge as its main USP.
