A board in a restaurant reads ‘Milk rice with nuts — Our rice pudding is almost totally nuts’. Another, at a fish stall, announces the sale of ‘thunder’ coconuts! A zoo has a notice board that says ‘Please be safe. Do not stand, sit, climb or lean on zoo fences. If you fall, animals could eat you and that might make them sick….and really ruin your visit.”
Sounds familiar? These are from photos published in our Caught Snapping column. Prakash Vaithyanathan who teaches Science and Math at Vael’s Billabong High International School in the city, has put together his favourite photos from the column in a monthly calendar.
The calendar is his attempt to make people smile at the beginning of the day. “This is the result of a year-long exercise,” says Prakash. “I chose the best ones from the Caught Snapping column across editions.” Prakash also wants to develop an app that displays these photos as a slide-show on desktops. “I’m speaking to my students who are good at app development for the purpose,” he says.
The calendar has been printed by Ganesan of Shri Varsha Enterprises. Prakash says that he brought out the calendar out of his own interest, without any commercial motive. “This is my attempt at a creative calendar that features something other than the usual photos of landscapes and movie stars,” he says.
So here’s one more from the calendar: An announcement at a notice board reads: ‘Credit will be given only for people above 80 years — Provided accompanied by both parents.’
