Diners at Chak De

Chak de! there is something about the phrase that put the spotlight on women's hockey (for all the right reasons). And when a restaurant calls itself thus, one can't help wondering if the owner is a hockey fan or maybe a SRK fan.

Adwaith Anup is neither. He wanted to set up a restaurant which was not just another restaurant but rather an experience in fine dining and therefore the moniker. It was just an effective phrase to personify the experience. He has paid attention to the presentation as well.

Anyway coming to the experience, we let Adwaith do the choosing. We started with murg kalimirch tikka and mutton seekh kebab, which Adwaith chose. There are other interesting kebabs such as galouti, shammi, grills etc besides the regular seekh kebab. The vegetarians need not despair there is lots to choose from in the tandoori veg grill, tandoori potato fry etc. There was aloo paratha and missi roti the staples of the ‘authentic north Indian' food scene here. We settled for ‘achari gosht' to go with the breads. Gosht is mutton and the achari part was tangy, actually more than tangy and very ‘achari' as pickles in the north tend to be. Mutton, poultry or seafood it's all there.

Adwaith says there are shorbas (soups) too to choose from, in fact there are almost eight or nine clear soups. There is the ‘yum' sounding dahi shorba and dahi is curd.

Of course for those who like their ‘experience' more diverse than safe they can choose from dishes such as ‘dahi murg', chicken kandahari kofta or there is always kadai chicken besides a wide range of goodies . A no fuss meal for two will come up to Rs. 250 and a more detailed meal will come up to Rs. 350. w
