College life offers a wonderful opportunity to break the monotony of uniforms from school days and make the most of the latest fashion trends. It’s also the time when youngsters discover their personal style. AW2014 trends have started rolling in and it’s time for a fresh wardrobe. Here is how you can make a serious fashion statement while you’re studying hard.

Be a sport

For her

The sportswear trend has evolved with new interpretations for AW2014 season. However, we aren’t talking about hitting-the-gym clothes here.

There are plenty of micro trends that you can mix under the sportswear banner. Wear a slouchy bat-winged top / T-shirt paired with skinny denims. Key accessories like a pair of Lennon-glasses, baseball cap and sneakers can really pull off the look.

For him

Hoodies, jerseys and varsity jackets are in this season. Mixing woven plaids can add exuberance to this trend which otherwise primarily comprises of knits. Sport a hoodie with autumnal plaids along with a graphic T-shirt and relaxed/tapered denims for a sophisticated casual look. Accessorise the look with relevance to the trend by wearing a baseball cap, cool bag and sneakers.

Black or white

For her

One of the easiest ways to wear the monochrome trend is to take it back to the basics. A simple black vest teamed with a solid white shrug and a pair of printed trousers is an easy way to pull off a black and white look. Try changing the textures or the material of the garment. For example, if you are wearing a solid top, pair it with printed trousers and a shiny leather bag. Do not shy away from incorporating a hint of colour in accessories.

For him

Black and white might not be the most revolutionary of trends for men, but taking a break from the regular solids-and-stripes and opting for quirky styling options can have a strong visual impact. To keep the look minimal and yet quirky, wear tapered black trousers with a white shirt featuring miniature prints — yet another key trend for the season. Colour blocking, especially along the collar and pocket, can add a touch of bold detailing. Ensure that the collar, placket and cuffs have narrow tailoring for a sleek and fresh look.

Keep the look minimal by wearing it with a simple pair of loafers.
