Here comes the sun.

Here comes the sun.

Women today are more active than ever before. Those in unconventional professions like photography, event management, journalism, field research, are exposed to the sun’s harsh rays. If they are in an area with high levels of pollution, that also takes its toll. As a result, their skin tends to lose it natural tone and moisture, leading to tanning, pre-mature ageing and sun spots.

The skin is an active and vibrant organ that adapts and changes depending on one’s environment diet and the normal wear and tear of life. Over time, the skin tends to lose its natural colour but this can be controlled by using a nourishing lotion that combines the properties of sun protection and tan removal.

Women tend to notice the tanning and sunburn issues in the trunk, back, face, sleeve and feet lines. Here are some simple tips that can be easily followed even by those with busy schedules.

Look beyond SPF: SPF is not the only measure of sun protection. Look for ‘dual spectrum’ or ‘broad spectrum’ lotion to protect your skin against UVA rays too.

The number game: With SPF, number is just one factor. Higher is not always better. A SPF of 20, used properly can protect your skin really well.

Tan control: Try and choose a sunscreen with an anti-tanning component to protect skin from immediate sunburn and tan response.

More than the face: Women tend to use sun protection lotion only on their face. It is important to understand that any exposed part of the body such as nape of the neck, arms and back and even back of hands and feet also need protection from the sun.

Even it out: Sunscreen is most effective when applied evenly on skin at least 15 - 20 minutes before stepping out. It ensures even tone by preventing uneven tanning

Breathe like a yogi: Yoga rituals such as Shitli and Sitkari Pranayama are known to cool the body. Practising them every day is beneficial for the overall health of skin.

Drink it up: It is very crucial to hydrate your body adequately throughout the day not just with water but also with foods known to be high in water content such as watermelon, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers ...

Trendy protection: Using umbrellas and scarves wherever and whenever you can. They provide the best protection for your body and skin.

Zen and skin: Meditation and deep breathing calm the mind, improve circulation and add a special glow to the skin. Take five minutes every day to breathe deep and rejuvenate the skin.
