Bengalis in Hyderabad don’t just think of Durga Puja and Saraswati Puja. Nor are they only interested in just knowing and visiting Bengali eateries. Their love for culture and cinema is known to all and taking this love and interest on a wider scale, the Bengalis in Hyderabad (BIH) is hosting the first ever Bengali Film Festival in the city. The not-for-profit cultural society is organising this festival as a ‘celebration of the resurgence of Bengali cinema in recent times.’

The event will showcase some of the notable and critically acclaimed Bengali films. Spread over three days, the fest which begins today, will showcase eight movies at Prasad Labs Preview Theatre, Banjara Hills.

Apart from a movie going experience, the audience will also get an opportunity to meet and interact with eminent filmmakers and actors present during the film festival.

The inauguration will be followed by a panel discussion on ‘How can Indian language films reach the world.’ The discussion will be followed by screening of Apur Panchali . The panellists for the discussion include M.M. Keeravani, Rupa Ganguly, Kaikala Satyanarayana, Ratnottoma Sengupta, Sekhar Das, N.K. Shastri and Kingshuk Nag

BIH intends to introduce twin city movie buffs to the world new age Bengali cinema and offer a platform for cultural exchange between Bengali and Telugu film industries by organising panel discussions with representatives from both the industries.

The event begins from July 18, 11 a.m. onwards at Prasad Film Laboratory, Banjara Hills , Hyderabad.

The movies to be screened are Nayan Chanpar Din Ratri , Jodi Love Dile Naa Praane , Take One , Apur Panchali , Phoring , Rupkotha Noy , Jaatiswar , Meghe Dhaka Taara .
