It's to be abhayanga, a rejuvenation massage, for me. Dr. Priya, the ayurvedic doctor at Dhathri ABS Clinic recommends it after examining me. “Besides overall health benefits and well-being, it tones up your muscles. It makes a healthy difference to your body,” she says. Dhathri ABS clinic, a popular name in Kerala that offers holistic health packages, (ABS stands for Ayurveda, Beauty and Slimming) has entered Tamil Nadu with their first clinic at Race Course in Coimbatore. With the suns rays filtering in, the ambience is inviting. Actor Amala Paul of “Myna” fame inaugurated the centre recently. The clinic specialises in treating lifestyle diseases such as obesity, diabetes, arthritis, hypertension, and offers beauty solutions and slimming techniques. Therapeutic yoga and meditation sums up the experience.

First is the consultation with the ayurvedic doctor. She suggests the treatment package based on individual health conditions and body requirements. Next, the slimming consultant, Nandini Armugam, takes over. A Body Composition Analysis (BCA) is done with the help of an imported machine. It gives a detailed report on the body composition beginning with the metabolic rate, fat percentage, muscle mass and adipose tissue, which helps one to decide on a suitable weight loss programme.

For weight loss, you can go in for long packages to get a desired weight loss of five or 10 kilos or opt for short duration inch loss sessions. For spot reduction, they employ passive mode of exercise such as vacuum therapy, gel therapy, ultra slimming and firming. The focus is on external treatment, diet modification and it is backed by physio consultation.

Maintaining weight

They also pay attention to weight maintenance. “No crash diets,” says dietician Shanthi Krishna. “We help clients modify the diet so that they stay fit and healthy. It has a combination of rice, vegetarian and non-vegetarian items to ensure that there is no craving.” It is a combination of Italian aesthetic technology ably supported with ayurvedic inputs that has brought in the desired results across their centres in Kerala.

In Abhayanga, ayurvedic oil is poured on the body and massaged in rhythmic motions for 45 minutes. It soothes, relaxes and tones up. I take a short nap and wake up recharged. A 15-minute steam bath follows. It rejuvenates and I emerge from it with a glow. Shower facility is available. I try their weight slimming for 45 minutes. A systematic contraction and relaxation of abdomen muscles which employs Italian technology and claims to have no undesirable side effects. What the machine does is fat mobilisation.

In beauty treatments, you can indulge in herbal spa, herbal facials and an entire range of ayurvedic hair care solutions from hair loss to dandruff and premature greying. They have ayurvedic treatments for skin problems too. Head massages, shirodhara and special massage for joint pain, shoulder pain and back pain are also offered. “We formulate the packages based on medicines and oils derived from natural herbs to bring in effective results,” says S. Sajikumar the managing director of Dhathri Ayurveda (P) Ltd. He comes from a traditional family of ayurvedic physicians. He has developed herbal hair oil which is a big success in Kerala.

Dhathri ABS clinic is located at D.N.1, G.D. Road, Race Course, Coimbatore -18. Call: 0422-4392846/ 87540-11118.
