Playing sports, reading fitness books and monitoring his body has worked well for actor, Sidharth Malhotra to get counted among Bollywood’s latest hunks. The lover boy reveals how modelling made him conscious of how he looks as a person. He gives tips on how one must enjoy working out and find entertainment in a gym…
“I am lucky in a sense that I like working out. It has now of course become a job but it has otherwise always been a hobby. I used to play rugby in cold Delhi winters which is the most physical game. We used to get up at 6 in the morning and train in shorts at the stadium. I played basketball for the school. My father was in the navy so we used to do salt water swimming, tough and best for fitness.” Busy promoting his new movie Hasee Toh Phasee , Sidharth tries to lessen his carbs while not shooting.
Who would have known a few years ago that the chubby Punjabi boy would grow up to become a heartthrob? Modelling from the age of 18 made him start his journey of looking a certain way, with or without shirt. It was his modelling aspect that helped him mesmerize audience with a toned physique in Student of the Year .
“My workout regimen is not fixed. It is now subject to what film I am doing. Fitness is very important in life and for any profession. For instance when we have a particular shoot and we have to show our physique, we start 10 days before. Similarly, if someone is going on a holiday and has to take off his shirt, he must prepare one month before. I think fitness regimen keeps on changing for three to four times a week with different workouts. One has to listen to his body, the body tells you and gives you signs to what you have to do,” says the actor.
He suggests that one must workout according to the workload and lifestyle. “If there is someone who works at the office, then doing strenuous workout at the gym is the only option. For someone who works at a public place or anywhere where they are walking around a lot then they are already doing a lot of cardio in a day. So it depends on what you are doing. Make it subject to your own personality. Don’t starve yourself. That’s the worst thing you can do.” He further says, “My diet plans keep changing. If I am doing an action sequence in a film I will need to do a lot of cardio, I will increase my carbohydrates to increase my energy.”
An enthusiastic reader of information on fitness, he suggests that one must take professional help before taking any supplements as it can result in serious hormonal changes. He personally has a phobia of eating something that can be unhealthy and keeps away from unnatural methods that can abuse his body.
“Being fit and having a physique are two different things. Akshay Kumar is really fit and Hrithik has got a great physique. So, it’s like I might be fit and may not look a certain way. Sadly as much as I like playing sports I don’t get time now. The only sport I do right now is gymming”
