Over the past few years, jewellery trends have transitioned from bold to minimalist. The time has come to bid adieu to collar candy and chunky bracelets and embrace dainty and intricate midi and first knuckle rings. Celebrities like Rihanna have flaunted these tea/memory rings, as they’re also called. More recently, the Nicola Peltz as Tessa Yeager from the hideous Transformers: Age of Extinction endorsed the trend.

Midi rings are rings that can be worn on any finger, but not where you would usually wear a ring. These are worn closer to the end of the finger and will feel a tad uncomfortable at first but you get used to it soon enough.
According to stylist and blogger, Pranita Mehta, “We have exited the fad of donning heavy statement jewellery pieces. To break this spell, I am all for showing some love to the minimal jewellery idea – the midi and first-knuckle rings. I have always believed in comfortable fashion. Midi rings never hold you back from doing whatever you want to do and also add a style quotient to it.”
If you’re wondering what parameters to keep in mind while picking up these rings, she informs: “The most basic designs in midi rings come in silver or gold finishes. You can have a diamond or two on top to flaunt some sparkle. The designs vary from circular and pointed-tip to the diamond-encrusted ones. Some even have small figurines, arrows, and even alphabets attached to them. The size should look good between the knuckles.”

Designer Niyati Manoj thinks: “Go for offbeat designs such as chevron patterns, a lightning bolt, a moustache, or even an anchor.” The infinity symbol and rhinestone flower patterns are also very trendy for midi rings.
Styling your look is also important for the ring to look good. “These delicate pieces work well with casual as well as glitzy styles of dressing. We’ve told you the dos and these are the don’ts. First, never wear a solo midi ring. These rings are meant to either be stacked or worn in combination with one or two more rings on the same hand. You could give an oversized/cocktail ring a shot too.
Stick to metallic rings and steer clear of plastic ones as they look rather tacky. Don’t wear rings that are too constricting. They only need to be snug.
These pieces of jewellery are extremely versatile due to their thin, acquiescent form. Great for both night and day, mix edgy and sweet looking ones to get the look right. They might be small but midi rings sure pack quite a punch!
