An eclectic change in the fashion scenario has arrived. The new avatar for ensembles; “Alphabets 2011” by ace fashion designer Hari Anand from Kochi, was shown at the Gokulam Convention Centre Saturday last. Hari works out of Kochi, refusing to migrate anywhere else in the country like Mumbai, saying his clients come to him.
Hari weaves magic into the garments showcased by top models from all over India and abroad. Though the show was a fusion of Indo western attire, the show stealer was the six yard wonder which has contoured the silhouette of Indian women for ages. The haute linen saris are pin tucked, pleated and embellished with beads, sequins and swarovski crystals. The menswear showcased tuxedos, linen shirts and jackets for the fashion conscious of Kochi.
Says Gautam Pavate the fashion choreographer, “It's a signature style for all ages targeting of course Gen Next who are the torch bearers of Indian fashion”. The ensemble is in collaboration with New York based Patti Stren and has been organized by Studio E events a Kochi based event management group. Says Col. Mathew, “This show has been organised with the sole view of encouraging fashion among the kochiites.”
It is also being covered by the top fashion channel FTV. Models from Mumbai, Bangalore , Kochi and Mauritius cat walked the ramp for the show.Candice Pinto the showstopper, looked stunning in her specially crafted ensemble. The other models who made their entry were Pragya Jaiswal, Meenakshi Kari, Surjeet Kaur, Jessica Maria, Ajay, Zayed, Varsitha, Deepthi Mohan, Sameer, Karishma , Shammantha and Anna. Sameer , a Bangalore based model who has also had a stint in Bollywood and Kannada movies, admits being thrilled at participating in the glitzy show and stated about Kochi being a fantastic place with her hospitality and humility. He also managed to pick up a few words of Malayalam like “evide poyi?, Chetta and Chechi” with his second visit.Bangalore based Deepthi Mohan is in Kochi for the first time. It's entrée for Varsitha into the fashion world of Hari Anand. She is highly excited about the venture and the FTV coverage.
What do these models feel about wardrobe malfunction? There are genuine reasons. Sometimes they do not get time to change quickly or the fittings will not be done properly.
It is just bad luck and the media should not take it up as a big issue. Nobody thinks of the nightmare the model undergoes.
It should never be taken up as an issue, they quote in unison. So fashion is here to stay in a big way in Kochi.
