“The collection is inspired by modern royalty. It represents the fusion of a rich heritage with the modern, exemplified by the young women of today, who are equally comfortable in saris as well as dresses,” said Pakistan-based fashion designer Faraz Manan about his collection Jewelled Nawabi, which was showcased recently at India Runway Week organised by Indian Federation for Fashion Development.
Faraz is renowned for blending Western style and Eastern elegance.
Since his mother was a stylist herself, fashion has been a part of Faraz’s life and, despite keeping an eye on traditional patterns and models, he tries to render his dresses suitable for contemporary society.
Asked about how tradition has inspired his works, he said, “The inspiration comes always from our heritage, but one has to live in today's world.
The Western sensibility only sees our clothes as costume so for them it is difficult to understand our work and workmanship but by keeping the colours palette pastels and the cuts contemporary and wearable we can bridge the gap between Western and Eastern sensibilities.”
Faraz’s collaboration with M.B. Jewellers and Sons will help to render the sense of royalty to his dresses through the use of precious accessories, mainly diamonds and, preferably with polki style, one of the favourites of the designer.
The most refined works of the stylist are his bridal dresses. “It is the most difficult design. It has to be stunning, it has to be different for every customer. It must fit perfectly and it must be a work of art. After all, it is the garment which every girl dreams of”.
