I love party dresses and gowns. But the issue with most is that after I am done wearing them once I don’t feel like repeating them. Could you please suggest ways to overcome this?- Rashmi

Thank God for women like you. That’s why we designers have a job!  For each of you who doesn't want to repeat her ensembles I sell a new one. However, I repeat my favourite outfits at least 30 times if not more. If I was my client my business would have gone bust by now. I wear my clothes in different avatars. For example, my wrap pleat dresses and tunics that I love wearing and travelling in can be  worn again with sheer wide pants for a more festive evening  or with  muted silver pants below for a more conservative look. Then again, I wear the same dress with a contrast sheer jacket over it. I’ve often travelled in the same pleated dress with a bright scarf or shawl draped around my neck. The dress then becomes the canvas for the beautiful shawl or scarf that takes centre stage. Often I throw in an accent or a colour detail to add drama, like a chunky neck piece. Despite the often-heard belief that it’s uncool to repeat your outfits, I believe my clothes are too beautiful and timeless classics and not to repeat it would be sad and a waste. The same stands for the Kancheepuram saris and Benarasi brocades we inherit from our mothers and grandmothers.

You just have to have the confidence and believe in the ensemble you are repeating.

(Fashion can be fun but also confusing. Wondering what to wear and what not? Mail in your style-related queries for Kiran Uttam Ghosh to melange.metro@gmail.com)
